Autism and Koi

Its has literally been described as an epidemic in the USA, autism.
The statistics coming out each year are more staggering from one year to the next. Between the year 2000 and 2010 the rate of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) went up 119%. By some estimates, a devastating 1 in 45 American children are affected by ASD. These are crazy numbers and many American families are struggling with the realities of raising these very special children. The struggle is not just for the ASD child; it is shared by parents, siblings, entire families.

QUESTION:

Hey Mike, is it ok to add new koi to the pond in the fall?

Have A Question For Mike? Ask the Expert

ANSWER:

Hey, thanks for reaching out! Great question. There are some benefits and some negatives to your question. One of the great things about getting new koi in the Fall is that you can find some great pricing on koi. In areas that get cold weather and winters most fish sellers are anxious to get rid of stock toward the end of the season before it gets cold; they do not want to have to keep stock all winter if they do not have to. For that reason some good deals and great pricing can be found on koi. On the other hand the koi that are available are usually not the best koi, they are what is left from their stock.

Pondemonium 2016

Operating from a fly, dragonfly, on the wall perspective the 2016 Pondemonium “Leading the Change” event hosted by Aquascape Inc. in St. Charles, Ill. from August 24-28 was another spectacular success. With digital age technology allowing one to observe events through photo, video, and Facebook posts while not physically participating in them, I am offering up a “review” of Pondemonium 2016 even though unable to personally attend this year. I followed along each day’s events, as well as received text updates throughout each day, allowing me the “dragonfly on the wall” review of the pond industry’s largest international event drawing pond professionals from around the world.¬†

I learned while researching this blog topic of tadpoles that the ancient Egyptians used the image of a tadpole in their system of hieroglyphics. I thought it was pretty cool that the tadpole made it into the sacred carvings of this ancient culture. The image of a tadpole was drawn to represent the number and quantity of 100,000. I wondered why would a tadpole be used to represent this massive number?
