A great way to get inspiration for blog topics is simply to take a look at my pond. There is always something going on that I can find interesting enough to get some words down. Sometimes, however; I need to look further than my own backyard pond. As my “Pond Princess” says, sometimes I need to “Think Outside The Pond”. That leads me to look at the lifestyle of water features and pond keeping as a whole. What is going on out there in the world, who is doing cool stuff, who is creating unique works, what are the pros doing, what are the do-it-yourselfers doing? Luckily there is a whole world of possibilities out there so for this blog I am stepping up to the globe and giving it a spin.

PONDEMONIUM – THE POND AND WATER GARDEN INDUSTRY’S MOST IMPORTANT EVENT

By: Mike Gannon | Posted On: September 12th, 2012 | No Comments on PONDEMONIUM – THE POND AND WATER GARDEN INDUSTRY’S MOST IMPORTANT EVENT

Many industries hold annual events. These events are often times organized to bring together professionals within the given industry as a means to break down “barriers”, build relationships, improve individual businesses, and strengthen the industry. For any industry these events are often critical to the collective success of the industry. Some industries offer larger and smaller events, and regional events; but there is typically one event that will attract all the pros and experts. This type of event, if none other are attended, should be the event that any professional within any given industry should be going to. They should attend if for nothing else than to see how everyone else in their industry is doing and to insure that what they do as a profession is strong and sustainable. For the pond, water garden, and water feature industry this annual event is Pondemonium.

911 MEMORIAL FEATURES WATERFALLS AS A WAY TO HEAL

By: Mike Gannon | Posted On: September 9th, 2012 | 2 Comments on 911 MEMORIAL FEATURES WATERFALLS AS A WAY TO HEAL

When considering water, one can spend countless hours trying to define what water is, what water does, or what water means. For many water might be what they wash their car with, others would say it is how they feed their villages; while others will tell you about how water heals them.

On September 11, 2001 the people of an entire nation, and to one degree or another; the people of the world community became victims of a brutal attack. This attack left in its wake destruction on a massive scale and the loss of thousands of lives in a most violent way. People from every walk of life were affected and a deep profound wound was thrust into the hearts and minds of millions of Americans. The road to healing was sure to be long and difficult, if possible at all.

One of the nice things about writing a blog is that the authors can write about anything they choose. Try a new direction once in a while and if its no good, no harm no foul; but it keeps blog writing interesting. However; the new direction should at least be in the spirit of the overall blog content, which leads me to this wine review

The Lotus, calling it just a flower seems like a description that is not quite fitting for such a plant. It is a plant with deep and ancient multi-cultural significance. A plant considered sacred in many religions, and mythologies. Lotus has been used medicinally for thousands of years.

The activity levels of the Great Blue Herons in my area had slowed down. I went ahead and took off the netting that I keep on my pond while the herons are in heavy stalking mode. I unplugged the talk radio station I play by my pond when I’m not there, so the heron stays away from human voices by the pond. I stopped moving the fake (super way too fake doesn’t fool a real heron for a moment, but it makes ME feel good) plastic Blue Heron around my pond and gave it the final spot for the rest of the season.

gin rin koi

If there is a koi that could have “jazz hands”, the Gin Rin koi would have to be the one. It’s flashy and glitzy. Some Gin Rin have more sparkle than Michael Jackson’s right hand glove (or left hand glove, I’m not really sure). The Gin Rin variety is a star among the koi world.
